Club History
The club has been running for over 38 years, currently under the watchful tutorage of its chief instructor Sensei Morton Gemmell, Second Dan. The club has had the pleasure of instruction from several Sensei over the years which has led to a deep and varied understanding of the martial arts and the techniques involved.

This is a photograph taken in 1974 of our current Sensei Morton Gemmell being thrown by past club instructor Sensei Jim Todd

Scotland v England 1980
Sensei Jim Todd represented Scotland in a "friendly" match against the "Auld Enemy" at the Bellahouston Sports Centre. The English team were the current European Shukokai Karate Champions and included the individual champion. The English were no match for the Scottish Team on the day.
The photograph shows Jim performing the Kata "Sienchin".

Thornhill Karate Demonstration
The club has performed several karate demonstrations over the years.
This photograph is from a demonstration held in Thornhill. Not very clear in the photo is Sensei Jim Todd jumping over an attack made by Sensei Morton Gemmell with a Samurai Sword. The sword was loaned to the club by Bob Spiers and belonged to a Japanese soldier from World War Two. Jim's only protection during the demonstration were a pair of wooden "Tonfa"

This is a photograph of the club members taken during the clubs time training at Sanquhar Academy.
